London is poised to lose substantial business in primer brokerage after the disaster of hedge fund money stuck in UK Lehman entities under administration, reports the FT. Funds are already transferring money to US prime brokers. However, with global banks, you never know where your money ends up (see Re-hypothecation hypotheses). It is, therefore, vital to have such eventualities in the contracts with your prime broker. In Europe there are several ways how to structure it properly – provided always that you react quickly enough in the worst case scenario.
