Although difficult times, the hedge fund community is answering the blame game with increased activity in issuing best practice guidelines. On the one hand AIMA published the HedgeFund Matrix, a ground breaking project in a step towards harmonized hedge fund practices. This very handy tool helps you to search and read through various of AIMA's and other organizations best practice guides (you can also download the entire guides). I really recommend reading (and implementing) it to anyone in the hedge-fund world. Following these principles will keep you out a lot of unintended troubles (e.g. you probably wouldn't have been doing this. IOSCO published a consultation for regulation of fund of hedge funds. And finally, our best friends, the SWF, also agreed on some principles, although very generic. The Generally Accepted Principles and Practices (GAPP)—Santiago Principles got even their own homepage from the IMF. I am curious who will control the compliance with the Santiago Principles.
